Our Story
Moneta Pay POS started in 2016 as PyPOS — a point-of-sale system built for a single restaurant in Nairobi. The problem was simple: existing POS systems were slow, expensive, and didn't work with M-PESA. We built something that did.
Over the next decade, what started as a solution for one restaurant grew to serve over 200 restaurants across Kenya and Uganda. The system evolved from a simple order-taking tool into a complete restaurant management platform — with waiter analytics, fiscal compliance, stock tracking, and remote access.
In 2025, we rebranded to Moneta Pay and rebuilt the platform from the ground up. The mission hasn't changed: build restaurant technology that works for how African restaurants actually operate.
What We Believe
- Keyboard-first, not touch-first. In high-traffic restaurants, keyboard shortcuts beat touchscreens. Our cashiers enter orders in under 15 seconds.
- On-premise, not cloud-dependent. African internet is unreliable. Your POS should work when the Wi-Fi doesn't.
- Compliance built in, not bolted on. Tax compliance isn't optional. We integrate directly with tax authorities so restaurants don't have to think about it.
- Transparency over complexity. Simple pricing, open documentation, no hidden fees.
The Team
We're a small, focused team based in Nairobi, Kenya. We build, deploy, and support the entire platform — from the POS client to the server infrastructure to the on-site installations. Our support team understands local restaurant operations because we've spent a decade inside them.
